With the recent changes in tax laws, it’s important to note that starting January 1, 2019, alimony is no longer taxable to the recipient and must be claimed as income by the payer. As outlined in NRS 125.150, these factors include the financial condition of each spouse, the nature and value of their respective properties, the duration of the marriage, the income and earning capacity of each spouse, the standard of living during the marriage, and other relevant considerations. 

In addition to periodic alimony payments, the court may also award rehabilitative alimony, which aims to support a spouse in obtaining training or education for career advancement. This type of alimony considers factors such as the spouse’s job skills acquired during the marriage and the financial support provided by the other spouse for education or training. 

When seeking to modify an existing alimony award, it’s essential to demonstrate changed circumstances. According to NRS 125.150, a change of 20 percent or more in the gross monthly income of the paying spouse may be considered as a basis for modification.
